Having worked with many photographers, producers, and art directors, I have found that the most important aspect of good make-up, whether for men or women, is making sure the viewer always sees clarity and luminescence in the skin tones.  Make-up for photography should never look "made up" unless it is specifically for a highly dramatic project.
